The Nutcracker in Dubrovnik

The Nutcracker, one of the most magical fairy tales about what happens when we dream on Christmas night, was performed last night in Dubrovnik by the Russian Ballet Ensemble.

The ensemble, under the artistic direction of Gediminas Taranda a former soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet, was joined on stage by little students from the Dubrovnik Ballet School, alltogether creating a beautiful fairy tale scene.

Nutcracker is said ‘Shchelkunchik’ – try to pronounce it!

This beautiful ballet  is a ‘two-act’, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It was given its première at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on Sunday, December 18, 1892, on a double-bill with Tchaikovsky’s opera, Iolanta.
