The recent bout of cold and stormy weather in Dubrovnik has confirmed that summer is well and truly over and now the first candle on the city’s advent wreath has been lit, Christmas is definitely coming. Last week saw the city slowly transformed in to a winter wonderland with green garlands mounted in side streets and around doorways as well as the traditional advent wreath feature behind one of the city’s water fountains beneath the bell tower.
Members of the City Council joined Father Stanko Lasic of Dubrovnik Cathedral led proceedings, watched by a small crowd. The four candles on an advent wreath symbolise creation, incarnation, redemption, and consummation with one lit each Sunday leading up to Christmas Day.
