It is particularly festive on Christmas Eve when the smells of cod and the traditional donuts ‘prikle’ spread, guided by the sounds of merry Christmas carols, through the festive streets decorated with laurel wreaths, bitter oranges and lights.
This year, as a prelude to the celebration of Christmas and New Year’s, Dubrovnik restaurants will observe ‘Codfish Days’ from December 20th to 24th. Dubrovnik’s chefs will prepare cod soups, white codfish stews, red codfish stews, cod pates along with the inevitable ‘prikle’ donuts, dried figs and a glass of homemade herb grappa.
